Year-Round Warmth

Grand Cayman is a paradise for many reasons, including it’s water temperatures. Winter (December to February) naturally offers slightly cooler temperatures, while summer (June to September) brings the warmest seas.

The Grand Cayman Ocean temperature hovers between 79°F (26°C) in winter and 86°F (30°C) in summer, with temperatures fluctuating throughout the year.

Snorkeling and Diving Temps

The best months for snorkeling and diving are from March to June, when water visibility is high and temperatures remain pleasantly warm, usually around 82°F to 84°F (28°C to 29°C). The seas are calm during these months and it’s often easier to spot marine animals like stingrays, turtles, and tropical fish! If you’re a scuba diver, you’ll love visiting Grand Cayman during these months too since the deep waters are comfortable and clear.

Warmer Waters

The ocean waters feel like bath water from July to September, with temps around 86°F (30°C), making it comfortable for snorkeling, paddleboarding and swimming! These months can also bring higher humidity, but the warm seas make it ideal for water sports.

Fishing Weather

If you’re an angler, the prime months for fishing are during the cooler season – from December to February. During this time, the water temperature hovers around 79°F to 80°F (26°C to 27°C) – giving you the opportunity to catch big game fish like marlin, tuna, and mahi-mahi, who frequent these cooler temped waters.

Remember Hurricane Season

Unfortunately, it’s important to note that hurricane season – June through November – can negatively influence ocean conditions and water temperatures; naturally causing rougher seas. Even though the water is warm, you must be careful and stay informed with local weather updates regarding storms in the area. The Cayman Islands National Weather Service can offer up-to-date marine forecasts if you happen to be visiting Grand Cayman during hurricane season.

Temperature Tips

We suggest early mornings as the best time to go snorkeling, swimming and diving since you can enjoy the water while escaping the midday heat. Enjoy the cool sea breezes during a sunset cruise in Grand Cayman, as you cruise along the warm waters and take in a pastel-colored sky.
