History of the Bodden Town Mission House in Grand Cayman

This little piece of history has been preserved on Grand Cayman for over 200 years. When the Bodden Town Mission House in Grand Cayman was first built in the 1700s, it was the perfect place for settlers because of the plentiful water and wildlife in the pond. In the 1800s, it gained its “Mission House” name due to the vast amount of teachers, missionaries, and families who lived there in hopes to start a Presbyterian ministry and school in Bodden Town. After being privately owned, it was given to the National Trust to take care of. Unfortunately, the home had to be rebuilt in 2004 after Hurricane Ivan, but the Trust collected and preserved original rafters, purlins and ironwood posts as well as the artifacts inside.
