About Davinoff’s Concrete Sculpture Garden
David Quasius, also fondly known as Davinoff, has been sculpting since 1999. In 2010, he began a collaboration with fellow artist Leo Verrett, and his first larger than life concrete animal was born. Since then, he has filled this sculpture garden with concrete animals. Each of the animals depicted are species that can be found on the island or in the waters of Grand Cayman.
This family-friendly park is an excellent stop. Kids love running around from sculpture to sculpture, and it’s an excellent photo opportunity! Plus, you can point out all the different animals to them and see if you see the true species somewhere during your trip as you continue exploring.
About the Sculptures
When you see the sculptures in the garden, you can tell that a lot of work and pride has gone into them. Each sculpture begins with a skeleton of rebar and metal mesh. From there, concrete is applied and a cement and sand mortar mix is put on top. The sculptures are so big and heavy that Davinoff creates each new one right on site! They weigh anywhere between 1,500 to 2,000 pounds.
Where Is the Sculpture Garden Located?
Davinoff’s Concrete Sculpture Garden is privately owned and is actually located on someone’s current residence, but the owners of this property graciously open it up to the public. Located on the North Side of Grand Cayman, you can see the park from the highway while traveling from Old Man Bay toward East End on Old Robin Road.
How Much Does It Cost?
Admission into the sculpture garden is free! The hope is that everyone will be able to enjoy this beautiful garden and take as many photos as they wish to remember their vacation by.
Get the Perfect Photo Op
The sculptures are so sturdy that you can let the kids run free. Pull out your camera and snap some candids or have another visitor take a photo of you and your sweetheart in front of your favorite sculpture. There are even some sculptures that are made for climbing! Did you ever think you would be able to get a photo riding on the back of a crocodile?
